Peas Cooked in French Fashion

Shell 1/2 packet  of peas and wash one large lettuce carefully. Place these together in a saucepan with one onion but without water. ( The moisture from the lettuce is sufficient for cooking the peas.) Allow to simmer gently for about 1 hour. When the peas are cooked the letup will have disappeared except for a few strongly pieces with the onion which should be removed before dishing up the peas.
