Eggless Chocolate Layer Cake

Ingredients

  • 8 ozs Self-raising flour
  • 3 ozs Margarine
  • 4 ozs Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Syrup or Treacle 
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 oz Cocoa
  • 12 - 14 tbsp Hot water

Method

Dissolve the treacle in the hot water and add the soda. Melt the margarine. Put the flour, sugar, salt and cocoa in a bowl and mix well. Add and mix well in the treacle water, then the melted margarine. Put (a thinnish batter) in 2 sandwich tins and spread deeper to the sides. Bake in a moderately warm oven for 20 - 25 minutes.
